The German
Studies Department at Emory
University is looking for a teaching assistant to live together with three
students of German in our German House and teach part-time. Your responsibilities include teaching one section of our beginning German language sequence in each the fall and spring semester
(75+75+50 minutes/week), teaching two weekly conversation classes in each
semester (2x50 minutes/week), and organizing approximately 1 social event
per month. We welcome your creative ideas, but the general structure of
the
classes and sample lessons plans are in place already. Teaching assistants
may also take one graduate course at Emory on a topic of their choosing per
semester. Our previous teaching assistants have found this position
rewarding and fulfilling, with a workload that has kept them busy but not
overwhelmed them. The position is designed in such a way that we can cover
your expenses but you would probably not be able to put too much aside.
We will appoint you as Visiting Fellow, part-time, effective September 1,
2022, through April 30, 2023. In addition to the compensation for the
courses (approximately $5,000 per semester), the Department of German
Studies will cover the cost of your transatlantic flight, a housing stipend
(estimated at $6,250 per semester), provide a graduate school tuition waiver
for both semesters valued at $2,489 per credit hour, and cover student fees.
Candidates need to have their M.A. degree in hand, teaching experience and
experience abroad is preferable. Interested candidates submit a short
letter of interest and resume to Caroline Schaumann (cschaum@emory.edu),
Professor and Chairperson of German Studies,
by July 11. We will make a decision shortly thereafter in order to begin
the visa application process, if necessary.
